It also addresses procedures for handling allegations of research misconduct, in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

Publishing in Al-IBROH is an essential contribution to the development of a coherent and respected body of knowledge. Peer-reviewed publications reflect the quality of the authors’ research and the institutions that support them, while representing the scientific method in practice. The journal is committed to maintaining editorial independence and ensuring that advertising, reprints, or other commercial considerations do not influence editorial decisions.

Allegations of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication – Making up data or results.
  • Falsification – Manipulating research processes, data, or results.
  • Plagiarism – Presenting another’s work as one’s own without proper attribution.
  • Citation manipulation – Adding citations for the sole purpose of increasing citation counts without academic necessity.

If misconduct is suspected:

  • The editor and editorial board will assess the validity of the allegation and its alignment with misconduct definitions.
  • Potential conflicts of interest will be considered.
  • The corresponding author will be asked to provide a detailed response.
  • Expert reviewers may be consulted for further evaluation.
  • Proven cases will result in manuscript rejection or article retraction. Retractions will be clearly linked to the original article.
  • Authors’ institutions are expected to conduct a full investigation when necessary.

Editorial Responsibilities

The editor is responsible for deciding which articles to publish, guided by the validity, significance, and originality of the work, as well as legal considerations regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their scholarly merit, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political views.

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher, as appropriate. Unpublished material disclosed in a manuscript must not be used in the editor’s own research without written consent from the author.

Reviewer Responsibilities

  2. Promptness – Reviewers who are unable to review a manuscript within the agreed timeframe should notify the editor and withdraw from the process.
  3. Confidentiality – Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents.
  4. Objectivity – Reviews must be conducted objectively, with constructive feedback and without personal criticism.
  5. Source Acknowledgment – Reviewers should identify relevant works not cited by the authors and notify the editor of any significant overlap with other publications.
  6. Conflicts of Interest – Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts where they have competing interests with the authors or institutions involved.

Author Responsibilities

  1. Reporting Standards – Authors must present an accurate and objective account of their research, with sufficient detail and references to allow replication.
  2. Data Access and Retention – Authors should be prepared to provide raw data for editorial review and retain such data for a reasonable period after publication.
  3. Originality and Plagiarism – Authors must ensure their work is original and properly cite the work of others.
  4. Multiple or Redundant Publication – Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
  5. Acknowledgment of Sources – Proper credit must be given to all works that have influenced the research.
  6. Authorship Criteria – Only individuals who have made significant contributions should be listed as authors. All authors must approve the final version before submission.
  7. Conflicts of Interest – All potential conflicts that could affect research interpretation must be disclosed, along with funding sources.
  8. Corrections and Retractions – Authors must promptly notify the editor if a significant error is discovered in their published work.
  9. Ethical Oversight – Research involving humans, animals, hazardous substances, or high-risk procedures must be conducted ethically and, where applicable, approved by an appropriate ethics committee.
