Abstract

This study aimed to analyze and describe the high, moderate, and low levels of creative thinking skills among fifth-grade students at MIN 6 Sihapas-Hapas, North Padang Lawas Regency. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 30 fifth-grade students as the research participants. Data were collected through essay-based written tests, interviews, and documentation studies. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The trustworthiness of the data was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings revealed three levels of students' creative thinking skills. First, students in the high-level category obtained a total score of ≥ 32.54, demonstrating fluency (93.1%), flexibility (90.2%), originality (91.7%), and elaboration (88.9%). These students were classified as “Highly Creative”, although the elaboration indicator remained in the "Creative" category. Second, students in the moderate-level category obtained total scores ranging from 25.72 to 32.53, with fluency (73.5%), flexibility (72.3%), originality (72.6%), and elaboration (71.6%), which placed them in the “Moderately Creative” category. These students demonstrated adequate fluency and flexibility in thinking but still showed limitations in elaborating their ideas. Third, students in the low-level category obtained total scores of < 25.72, with fluency (52.8%), flexibility (50.0%), originality (47.9%), and elaboration (47.2%), and were classified as “Less Creative”. Students in this category experienced difficulties in generating original ideas and relating scientific concepts to real-life situations. Overall, the creative thinking skills of fifth-grade students at MIN 6 Sihapas-Hapas were predominantly at the moderate level (66.7%), with an average score ranging from 25.72 to 32.53. These findings indicate that students' creative thinking skills still require greater attention and continuous improvement through appropriate instructional strategies supported by both teachers and the school.
